Fast Fridays: 30 Minutes for God/How it got started

“Fast Fridays” arose from a discussion with a former high school student, Justin, about his rediscovery of faith. He had no idea that I wasn’t even baptized when teaching him some years ago, much less not being Catholic teacher at a Catholic school!

We decided to keep up the discussions, and to share it with others. Please do share it with others: send them here: Fast Fridays signup

What's it for?

The idea is to stop and give a moment to God, even on a Friday evening, especially before heading into the typical Friday night, which is usually more about ourselves and the world than about God. A friend calls it a "time out for God."

This is certainly not something I ever would have considered in the past, even after my baptism in 2021. But as I discovered the beauty of fasting, it made me want to share with others that connection to God that it fosters. Thus, "Fast Fridays."

I told Justin that we would speak for 30 minutes and no more, and we would review a particular topic of my choice each week. So, yes, I get to play teacher, but it is just to set a baseline for the discussion and see where it takes us. Your ideas are welcome!

Finally, Fast Fridays is not just for Catholics. I am Catholic, and it informs my perspective, but this is for all believers. As I stated on the Fast Friday's main page, this is not apologetics for or against one denomination or another, and nor is it in defense of Christianity. We're here to celebrate God -- even on a Friday evening.

May God bless you,
