Exegesis or Biblical exegesis is the study or art of interpreting Sacred Scripture.

Exegesis means "study" and/or "interpretation"
- from Greek exegeisthai for "explain, interpret"
- ex (from) + hegesithai (to lead, guide)
- so "drawing out"
- an exegete is one who interprets or explains scripture
